Hoivatilat showcased its new service community at the Lohja Housing Fair

Sunday 8 August 2021, the final day of the Housing Fair in Lohja, Finland. For exactly one month, Aedifica’s Hoivatilat team has proudly been showcasing its all-new service community to the public here. Hoivatilat’s development project is the perfect example of what the future of healthcare real estate in Finland looks like: this state-of-the-art care campus combines elderly care and child day-care provided by two different care operators, and is perfectly integrated in the new residential neigbourhood in Lohja that was specifically built for the Housing Fair.

What is a Housing Fair?

Housing Fair in Finland is an annual event for everyone interested in all things related to housing. Each year it takes place in a different city. The fair showcases the ongoing and future trends in housing industry: architecture, building, materials, interior design, furnishing, landscaping, etc. It is the place where housing developers and construction companies as well as interior designers and furnishing manufacturers can introduce their work to a large audience of both housing professionals and enthusiasts. After the Housing Fair ends, people will move in and live in the buildings that were constructed and decorated for the audience to visit.

Hoivatilat at the Housing Fair

This was the second year in a row that Hoivatilat participated in the Housing Fair, and the third time in four years. Hoivatilat developed a service community, an innovative residential care concept that offers the ideal environment to combine multiple types of care and services for both the building’s users and the community at large on a single campus. The building in Lohja includes a care home for the elderly and a day-care centre for children within the same building and was specifically designed to enrich their lives by creating several opportunities for them to meet each other and share experiences. It is about 3,000 m² in size and consists of three floors. There is also an outdoor area with a playground for the day-care centre and a special place from where the elderly can follow the activities of the children.

Welcoming the visitors

From 9 July to 8 August, the Hoivatilat team was on hand every day to welcome the more than 70,000 visitors of the Housing Fair. Juho Malmi, Marketing Manager of Hoivatilat Finland, showed people around the building for 31 days:
‘We would start the day by cleaning the showrooms and restock the hand sanitiser units to make sure everything was Covid-proof. The first visitors would usually arrive at 10 a.m. On the second floor, in the care home, they could visit two fully decorated seniors’ apartments and two common living areas. The lift, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of the elderly and is equipped with anti-bacterial surfaces and an air purification system, would take visitors to the child day-care centre on the ground floor, where they could explore a number of typical living spaces and the children’s playground.’
