Together with its partners, Hoivatilat made sure that Sospro’s exact vision of the right kind of facilities was realized as desired. In the project, Hoivatilat was responsible for the supervision of the construction phase and the final works. Hoivatilat will also remain the long-term owner of the property. Vestera, as the contractor, was responsible for the project planning.
– The cooperation between all parties was very smooth. Vestera carried out the contracting very well, says Mikko Yrtti, who was involved as a project manager from Hoivatilat.
The smoothness of the project is indicated by the fact that the building was handed over to Sospro ahead of schedule. Piia Sauranen, Sospro’s regional manager for Kanta-Häme, Varsinais-Suomi and Satakunta, who is responsible for the Salo’s operational unit, says that she is satisfied with the end result and the cooperation with Hoivatilat.
From our point of view, it has been a very successful project from our point of view.
New high-quality unit raises interest
Sospro’s operating unit Metsätammi is in a quiet suburb in Halikko. There are two separate seven-bed residential units in Metsätammi, of which Terho started operating at the beginning of 2024. The operation of the Latvus residential unit will start in August 2024.
Terho is a special-level residential unit for children and young people aged 10–17 who have neuropsychiatric challenges and need strong schooling support. In the design of the premises, we wanted to emphasize a suitable world of senses, visual pleasantness and homeliness. The safety of the premises has been an important starting point for the design work, says Piia Sauranen.
– The premises must be safe for both children and adults, which is why, for example, efforts have been made to monitor the premises. There are plenty of places for multi-faceted togetherness, but all children also have their own room, where they can go if they need their own peace, Sauranen describes.
According to Sauranen, Terho unit has collected a lot of positive feedback. Convenience and safety have been brought in in many ways, for example with automated structural and safety solutions.
– We are happy that we got really beautiful and functional premises in Salo, Sauranen says.
There is fierce competition for skilled workers in this field, and the healthiness, comfort and safety of the premises are of great importance when looking for a job. We had an exceptionally large number of applicants for this Salo unit. Certainly, the fancy new unit contributed to that.
Yard school takes into account different learning needs
A school has been built in the yard of the residential unit, where the children and young people of the unit can study in two small groups. The school is an activity maintained by Salo’s education department and belongs to the neighboring Armfelt school.
– School cooperation is extremely important to us, because from the point of view of the children placed with us, it is a key thing that sets the rhythm of everyday life, says Piia Sauranen.
Important things in the school building of Terho’s operational unit are lightness and flexibility, says Armfelt school principal Hannu Pölönen.
Thanks to the flexible grouping of the classes, there is also space in the building to organize events where the children’s guardians are present. Thus, for example, the cake coffees of the spring party are easily successful.
– The school is in a really pleasant location, and the yard have been built for children for all kinds of free time. When you get to know the unit, you can immediately see that the children and the everyday life of the school have been thought about, Pölönen says.
