Hoivatilat becomes a member of the Green Building Council Finland
The Board of Green Building Council Finland has accepted Hoivatilat Oyj as a member. FIGBC is a cooperation network that aims at a sustainable and carbon neutral built environment that operates in a circular economy and enables people to live a sustainable and quality life.
– Our real estate portfolio of around EUR 1 billion commits us to a focus on sustainability, and the fact that the real estate and construction sector is a major emitter adds weight. Strong action is therefore required from the whole sector, and the Green Building Council Finland’s active support is excellent. Therefore, joining was a natural decision for us, says Atte Niittylä, CEO of Hoivatilat.
Towards carbon neutrality through responsible choices
The European Union’s Green Development Programme aims for the continent to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Finland’s climate policy aims even higher: the ambitious goal of our climate policy is for Finland to be carbon neutral by 2035. As a major property owner, Hoivatilat aims to be in step with Finland’s national programme.
Hoivatilat has a fairly good starting position: the property stock is reasonably new, mostly developed and built by the company itself over the last decade or so. In addition, the company’s strategy from the outset has been to act as a responsible long-term property owner. For several years now, we have been systematically developing the energy management of our properties, including through remote metering and remote monitoring. Our properties are remotely monitored by building services and their energy, electricity and water consumption is automatically measured.
– It is no secret that when you are building a property that you will own for a long time, you have a vested interest in making sensible, time-saving decisions. We always aim for A energy class properties and choose renewable heat sources, says Juhana Saarni, Real Estate Director of Hoivatilat.
