Attendo Hummeli opened its doors in Kerava on Finland’s 100th anniversary

Attendo Hummeli, a new service home for the mentally handicapped in Kerava, celebrated is housewarming party on the eve of Finland’s independence day. Another cause for celebration is the fact that Kerava is the 50th municipality that Hoivatilat has had the pleasure to collaborate with. Attendo Hummeli is also Hoivatilat’s 100th property development project.

 A new service home for the mentally handicapped with a capacity for 27 inhabitants was completed in Kerava. The unit consists of three terraced houses, two of which are allocated to inhabitants with a slight mental handicap and one for inhabitants with a severe disability.

The new service home, located near the centre of Kerava in a mixed neighbourhood, was completed in autumn 2017.  The key objectives were to create a safe environment that promoted a communal way of living and felt like home. Safety and accessibility were important factors also in the layout of the courtyard and the solutions used in the terraces.

A home that looks like its inhabitants

— What the inhabitants need in their everyday lives has been taken into account very well in the planning of the new unit. It will be a home where each inhabitant can live a life that looks like him or her, says Attendo’s area manager Erja Kaksonen.
